Perhaps it's some kind of mechanical failure unrelated to sweat and salt. Garmin…..you owe me one. When I put the HRM on and see the heart, sometimes I see 72 but usually I see two underline characters and nothing else. http://pfntech.com/heart-rate/garmin-forerunner-235-heart-rate-monitor-not-working.html I ride in warm weather and sweat profusely - my synthetic shirt is soaked - so it is not a dryness problem - I even thought the shirt could be electrically
Don't know which fixed it but it works again!! I even borrowed a friend's 305 to ensure it was the monitor and not the watch itself who was malfunctioning. I've tried fitting it in every position possible and wet all the sensor points. Cutting the strap in two does seem counter-intuitive, but this has indeed worked for me.
Changing the battery and extra cleaning the strap didn't help at first, but I did get it going again. I will try the Gel as licking drys too quickly, however I think the manufacturers should consider adding some small pimples to their electrode contact surfaces.
